Dave, Jim at House of Ghia here! To remove an original VW dash pad, '68 and later Ghias. Step 1) Open each door and remove the small phillips headed screw that holds the far edge of the dash pad to the "door opening". Step 2) From the luggage compartment, look up at the bottom of the dash. You should immediately see a few white nylon nuts, on white nylon threads. Using a 13 mm wrench remove all of these. Not a difficult task EXCEPT for the nut/bolts on top of the glove box and the nut/bolt at the extreme right hand section of the dash. You have two options. Find old slender fingers and convince them to use a wrench. If your wife is visiting her mother, then you must remove the glovebox liner. Find a 1/4 drive socket set. Rob two 6 inch long extensions. Locate an 8mm socket, preferably deepwell. Remove the 5 mm x 25 mm long screw at the end of the flat strap that holds the glovebox in place. It is long, and seemingly you are ratchetting forever. Gently move the glovebox, you do not have to take it entirely out of the car. Now, access the hard to get nylon nuts. You can not make a mistake, because no other item on your Ghia uses a nylon nut. Some times, your fingers can do the wrenching. Step 3) Remove any dash vent opening covers (Some 70, most 71-4 Ghias.) If they don't want to come out, try lifting the dashpad anyway. Don't be suprised if the dashpad comes out in chunks.
